Geoff and I decided to throw my Dad - Bill Kirsten a 74th Birthday Party on his birthday June 23, 2001! Of course Dad loved the idea. And we thought it would be jolly fun to get the family together. Although we lived in Santa Cruz at the time, we decided that it would be better to have the birthday bash at a more central location. Dad lived in Stockton and the rest of the family lived not too far away in various cities. So Micke Grove Park in Lodi seemed like the perfect spot since it was just a little north of Stockton. The party was lots of fun! Many family members showed up as you can see in the pictures. It was especially great being with my fabulous sister Sue and my two fun loving brothers Mike and Jerry and all of their families at the party. But I do have a wonderful and an unforgettable memory from this event. Right before the party was to start, my Dad and I went to the nearby grocery store to buy party supplies and pick up the yummy big birthday cake that we had ordered in advance. While busily (and a little stressful!) shopping for all the party supplies, I looked up at my Dad's face to see his big smiles. He was really having such a great time shopping with me! It made me so very happy. This is a memory that I think about every so often and will never forget. I loved my Dad and wanted to do something very special for him! |
